How to Protect Your Salt Import Cost When Freight Rates Keep Changing

We cannot control the shipping market. But we can help you manage it. Here are five simple ways to protect your import cost.
1. Choose FOB or CIF based on your situation
At VASP Sons, we quote both.
FOB (Tuticorin): You pay the salt price to us, and you book the shipping yourself. This works well if you have a good freight forwarder or shipping line contract.
CIF (your destination port): We include the freight in the quote, so you know the full cost before you commit.
If freight rates worry you, ask for both quotes and compare them.
2. Fill the container
Freight is charged per container, not per ton. Our minimum order is one 20 ft container (28 tons). A full container spreads the freight cost over more tons, so the freight cost per ton is lower.
3. Plan your orders early
Last-minute orders often meet the highest rates. If you know your salt needs for the next few months, plan your orders ahead and talk to us early.
4. Ask how long a quote is valid
Freight quotes change quickly. Always ask how long the quote stays valid, so you can decide with the right numbers in front of you.
5. Work with a supplier who ships on time
A late shipment can cost you more than the freight itself. It can mean missed delivery dates, storage costs, and unhappy customers. We are HACCP and Halal certified, and on-time shipment is a promise we take seriously.
